Changing Your Password and Setting up Multi-Factor Authentication
This article outlines how to change your password if you know the current one, and how to set up multi-factor authentication (most commonly the Microsoft Authenticator app). If you do not know your current password, but have working multi-factor authentication methods, please see this article. If you do not know your current password and do not have authentication set up, please reach out to the help desk.
Changing Your Password
Navigate to myaccount.msoe.edu, and sign in with your MSOE email and password. On the dashboard, select the CHANGE PASSWORD link, as highlighted below.

Enter your current password and desired new password, and click Submit.
Password requirements:
- Minimum 16 characters
- Can't be similar to a previous password that you've set
- Can't include common words like password, MSOE, summer, your name, or your ID number

Adding or Changing MFA Methods
Navigate to myaccount.msoe.edu, and sign in with your MSOE email and password. On the dashboard, select the UPDATE INFO link, as highlighted below.

Here, you can see your current authentication methods, remove any that are no longer in use, and add new ones.

IT recommends that you set up the Microsoft Authenticator app, as shown above, as well as verification by phone. You must have at least two valid authentication methods to reset your password when you have forgotten it. If you are interested in setting up a USB key as an authentication method, please see this article.
