Graduate Student IT Resources
Information for incoming graduate students about the MSOE IT resources available to them.
MyMSOE
myMSOE is your campus information system. Some of the things you can do here are:
- Register for classes and view your schedule
- Pay your tuition and access important financial information
- Check your grades
- View the course catalog and academic calendar
- Apply to study abroad
- Find a campus map
- Browse the faculty and staff directory
- Reserve rooms for study groups or club meetings
- And find links to the following
- Canvas
- Box drive
- Webmail (Outlook on the internet)
Not all of these are visible without signing in, which you can do from the Username box in the top right of the screen. To sign in, you only need to enter the first half of your MSOE email. For example, if your email is roscoe@msoe.edu, you only need to enter roscoe in the username field.
Single Sign On (SSO)
Single sign in is used for most applications here at MSOE, including myMSOE, Box, Canvas, and webmail. You may see this listed as Enterprise login or Microsoft login as well. No matter where you are signing in with your MSOE account, you will be redirected to a standard sign-in page.
Microsoft 365
Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and all of the Office applications are included with Microsoft 365. Visit portal.office.com and sign in with your MSOE account to get started. OneDrive cloud storage will help you back up all of your data, and make it available across devices. Teams and Outlook are both available either online or through dedicated apps for your computer and smartphone.
Printing
You can set up printing on your personal laptop to allow you to print to the MSOE campus printers. You will need to be connected to the MSOE WiFi network or the VPN in order to send a job to the printers, and you will need your ID card to start a job from the printer. For information on setting up printing on your personal device, please see this article.
Self-Service Password Reset
As an MSOE student, you will have the ability to reset your password whenever needed. When you set up your account for the first time, you were asked to set authentication methods as well, which you will need to reset your password yourself. If you have not set up multiple distinct authentication methods, please refer to this article for help.
Wireless Internet Access
MSOE provides wireless internet to all currently enrolled students free of charge. You may connect your personal devices to the MSOE WiFi network using your MSOE credentials. If you are renting a laptop from the IT department, it should automatically connect to the MSOE WiFi.
The MSOE-Guest WiFi network is intended for limited-time use by campus visitors, is lower speed than the main MSOE network, and does not allow access to MSOE resources such as printing.
IT Support
The MSOE Help Desk is the place to start for all of your software, computer, printer, and phone questions. To report a problem with any of these services, or to get help with MSOE-provided software or services, please visit the help desk on the 3rd floor of the Campus Center. You can make an appointment at it.bookings.msoe.edu, or create a ticket by emailing helpdesk@msoe.edu or visiting helpdesk.msoe.edu. We are also available by phone at (414) 277-7288.
In addition, you can view our support articles at helpdesk.msoe.edu/support/solutions. Not all of our articles are visible when not signed in, so we recommend signing in with your MSOE account to see the full library.
ID Cards
MSOE ID cards are issued by the IT department, and can be picked up on the 3rd floor of the Campus Center, at the help desk. Your first ID card is provided at no cost to you, but replacements carry a fee. All students must submit an ID photo via WebCard. We recommend following this guide.
Once you have received your ID card, it is your responsibility to take care of it. If for any reason your ID card is lost or stolen, please reach out to Public Safety immediately so that the card can be deactivated. You can call Public Safety at (414) 277-7169. After reaching out to Public Safety, or if your ID card stops working due to damage or wear and tear, contact the help desk to request a replacement ID.
For more information on the MSOE ID card policy, please consult this article from the campus policy library. Note: in order to view the policy library, you need to be signed in to myMSOE.
Building Access
All students are automatically granted access to academic buildings. If you require additional access for class, campus employment, a student organization, or other similar reasons; a member of the MSOE faculty or staff must submit a request to the helpdesk on your behalf. Requests should be sent to helpdesk@msoe.edu.
